Hedge Reduction

Hedge Reduction Services

At ATC, we specialise in hedge reduction, restoring overgrown hedges to a neat, level finish or shaping them to match the ground’s natural gradient. Unlike standard hedge trimming, we use a chainsaw to cut directly into main stems and lateral branches, efficiently removing large amounts of debris. This method allows for quick, effective height reduction, while selective cutting promotes healthy, thicker regrowth. We then use a hedge cutter to neaten the final edges.

Why Reduce a  Hedge?

Hedge reduction helps to:

  • Open up views and improve visibility
  • Increase sunlight exposure
  • Strengthen the root plate to reduce the risk of windblown trees

While we primarily work with Conifer and Laurel hedges, we also reduce Beech, Hornbeam, Holly, mixed hedgerows, and more, applying the same precision and care.

Large-Scale Hedge Management

We also reclaim large land boundaries, such as fields and farmland, by reducing overgrown tree lines into manageable hedges. For these projects, we use an excavator with a tree shear and powerful flail. For taller hedges and boundary lines, we climb into the canopy or use a Mobile Work Elevated Platform (MWEP) to complete the job safely and effectively.

Wildlife Protection

We are committed to responsible hedge management and do not reduce hedges during bird nesting season (March to August), ensuring wildlife remains undisturbed and protected.

Whatever the hedge type or project size, ATC has the expertise and equipment to get the job done efficiently and to the highest standard.
